Na na ā€˜Kechi Chai Tell you more about where I come from Call it home sweet home Look ā€˜Round the corner off of 63rd & Cass Wasnā€™t much around A couple stations for the gas (A) couple fast food spots Mickey Dā€™s on the half days Remember grabbing BK on the Last day of 8th grade 14 with the Airwalk kicks The whole block became my home when I was six Had a flock that was mixed With Arab, Indian, mostly Chinese I was still the token black that everybody was pleased with Always managed to tease me ā€œIke is happier than gay Sweeter than an Oreoā€ Not much else they would say Iā€™d be on Jameson Way Down the street from the park Playing Sandman and soccer Couldnā€™t stay long after dark For the longest time, not much else that I knew of Took me a while to grow up from where I grew up I go back just for the few I love Now itā€™s part of my story ā€˜fore I blew up Itā€™s home sweet home Home sweet home Iā€™ll roam (roam on) my own But I can get too far from where Iā€™ve grown Verse two, take it back when I was living in my mamaā€™s land West coast, Imo state It was in my mamaā€™s plan But I done blocked out some chapters of the plot Suppress all the bad memories, say ā€œI forgotā€ Niggas calling me a brother, then they stealing from the kid Then they feed off my intelligence Itā€™s just the way they live ā€œLife is greatā€ I was saying While Iā€™m lying through my teeth I would clean the gutters, read my books And cry myself to sleep But not a peep to my mama cuz my sisters doing fine Plus Iā€™m here with all my family A place thatā€™s so divine And I was lying to myself Thinking thereā€™ll be better days Til I caved and told my mama ā€œI donā€™t think I wanna stayā€ That was 14 months, boarding school in my parents village I was 14, turned 15 with a different image Of this world and the places where I grew up Opened my eyes to a new view of Home sweet home Home sweet home Iā€™ll roam (roam on) my own But I can get too far from where Iā€™ve grown Iā€™ve been searching for my freedom song in foreign land Itā€™s getting harder to understand, no The sweetest melody rings in my heart I know that we canā€™t be too far Drifting in this world Diving deeper into the unknown Tryna land upon a place I call my own Ainā€™t hard being alone When the phone donā€™t be ringing And nowadays I donā€™t really be singing Like the way I always did But someday Iā€™ll be singing to my kid Tell him bout all the things I did and let him know ā€œOne day you gon grow to have your own But you wonā€™t ever be alone Cuz itā€™s home sweet homeā€ Home sweet home Iā€™ll roam (roam on) my own But I can get too far from where Iā€™ve grown

about

I remember mentioning in my press kit for 'Kechi Tunez how my music making/songwriting stems back to when I lived in Nigeria. And honestly, I don't talk about that enough in my music. I don't tell my real story enough in my music in general. I speak in vague metaphors & whimsical word play, for the most part.

I think that's why "Home Sweet Home" is a special stand out that a number of my friends have expressed their deep love for. I'm really showing y'all who I am in this, where I come from, how I grew up. The whole philosophy behind Tunez is understanding yourself, and a big part of that is acknowledging the people and things around you that helped to form you. In that essence, "Home Sweet Home" is the quintessential song for Tunez and deserves more shine.

So that's what this single pack is. Different iterations of the song; some intentional, others (one) completely on accident. All Tunez. Enjoy šŸ™šŸ¾šŸ”
